    A rakhi is tied in the morning and, by the end of the week, it is in a drawer or a bin — one of roughly 50 crore rakhis sold in India every year, most of them plastic and foil, almost none of them handmade.

    This one is cotton, seed paper, roli and chawal, handmade in Agra by women who make each one by hand — the complete ceremony, not a lighter version of it. And because it's real cotton and paper, not plastic, the thread you tie in August is a green thing on his windowsill by September.

      Handmade seed paper — upcycled cotton waste with vegetable and wildflower seeds pressed in by hand — tied on handspun braided cotton thread.

      The green card it arrives mounted on, also seed paper, also plantable. Nothing here is just packaging.

      “Happy Raksha Bandhan”, printed with water-soluble dye on seed paper. Read it, then plant it.

    Will it actually grow?

    Yes — soak the coins, plant everything under about 5mm of soil, water it daily. Seedlings usually show in 7–14 days.
    No garden, just a balcony?

    That's exactly what the coir pot is for. A sunny windowsill is plenty.
    Can I plant it later, not right away?

    Yes, there's no rush at all. Just keep everything dry until you're ready.
    What on earth is a cow dung coin?

    Compressed, fully dried, odourless natural fertiliser — a standard part of seed-paper planting kits. It's the nutrition layer for whatever comes up.
    Is the packaging eco too?

    Is this traditional or just a modern eco product?

    Traditional. Cotton thread, roli, chawal, a handmade paper rakhi — this is closer to how a rakhi was made before plastic and foil packets took over. KVIC sells a similar natural rakhi made by rural women under its Khadi Rakshasoot line.
    Is it safe for kids to help with?
